The next must have camping accessory for me has to be a BioLite camping stove. These amazing little stoves run on wood and use a thermo-electric processes to transform the heat from the stove into electricity. Why? They then use the electricity to power a fan for the stove combustion chamber. Why? To make the fire more efficient and cleaner burning. Why else? To charge your iPhone of course or any other usb powered device. How cool is that! The stove is not bad for backpacking either at 2 lbs and 1 oz. And it only takes up 8.25″ by 5″ of space in your pack. This cool new stove is brand new and in manufacturing right now. You can reserve one now at BioLite’s Website. At $129 it is prices just right. Go check it out!

Camping cold weather can be a lot of fun if done correctly. First thing you have to do is assess what you are up against. When planning a camping trip in cold weather, check the weather forecast ahead of time to determine what you might be facing in the days ahead. If it is going to snow, make sure that you are going to have adequate transportation to get to and from the campsite. Also make sure you have the necessary equipment to survive in the snow like snowshoes.

How to stay warm
Clothes
Staying warm in cold weather is just plain common sense. Make sure you pack layers of clothing so that you can just your body heat according to the changes in your environment. Instead of just packing one large down coat, pack multiple layers of clothing items like a T-shirt and a sweatshirt as well as a heavier coat. Add additional shirts if you’re cold and remove layers as you get hot. The key here is to avoid sweating which will cause your clothing to get wet and can lead to hypothermia.

Next time you are camping with a group and looking for something fun to do, try mountain ball! I am unsure of the origins of Mountain Ball, but, I believe it might be Philmont scout ranch. That’s where I first learned to play it. It is a crazy fun filled game! You can usually fashion a bat and ball out of materials at hand. We made a ball from a pine cone, some socks and some duct tape. I recommend a soft ball like that since this is played without gloves. Anyway, check out the rules below and leave me comments about some of your mountain ball stories. And remember when you win, you must recite…
”We are the finest Mountain Ball players in all the land! Bring us your best meats and cheeses!”
